Driving Those Ribbons of Highway

School was out two weeks ago, we hit the road and made a 13 hour drive up to North Carolina. Spent a few days visiting Frank's mom at a meeting point on the coast. Then turned around and did the 13 hour drive home.

Six days later I turned around and drove 13 hours back to North Carolina...this time I am there to pack her house and move her to live near us.

I have been here five days now, we are progressing well, but have a lot of work ahead of us still, I return to my hotel each night and sleep an exhausted sleep, refreshed and ready to return to work the next morning.

So please bear with my lack of postings lately...

Trapped in Paris!!

Yes, I could handle being trapped in Paris!

(screen shot taken this morning from a new zealand news website -www.stuff.co.nz -
*note the Eiffel Tower*)

Sadly I am not trapped in Paris, I am trapped in my sewing room instead (which I actually enjoy) and it isn't a volcano ash cloud that is keeping me there, it's a little mistake I made in my measurements. The project is a set of slip covers for some patio chairs for a friend....being for someone else puts the pressure on and it's Murphy's Law that a mistake will be made. I made 32 little tabs with Velcro which hold the covers on the chair....my tabs were a bit too short. So I had to make 32 more!! it was a wee bit of work, but have just finished, put them on the chairs and taken the photo for you.
Set 1
Set 2
and finished. There was also a request for little armrest covers - looked very cute. Next up are some pillows.

Seems I am being stalked by the Eiffel Tower... more in another post.

Hair - the making of a book

Anyone who knows James, knows how he loves his hair. The same people also know how he dislikes having his photograph taken. He tends to want to hide behind something - might be another person, an object, a handy sweatshirt, or usually his hair.

Of the many hours that have been spent neglecting his hair, an equal number of hours have been spent washing, drying, primping, straightening, and flicking it into the perfect position.

For his 16th year of "hair" I put together a small collection and made a book - featuring both his love and his dislike...photographs of his hair.

I collected the photos - the recent ones are digital, so were quickly uploaded to the Walgreens website. The older ones I had to first find in shoe boxes (yeah...still waiting for that rainy day when I am going to put them in albums) then photograph those with the digital camera before uploading. I completely forgot that I could scan them instead.

I selected the book size - 11.5 x 8", number of pages -20, Cover jacket design - glossy black with 3 photos. page layouts, page colours - black and white, then the font - a handwriting font, colour grey. I Dragged the photos onto the pages, typed in the text -I used the lyrics from the song "Hair" throughout the book, only adding captions of my own to the first and last photo. I then looked over the proof and clicked submit....paid online and voila...four days later it arrived at our door.

And I will confess that it was me....I am responsible for starting the long look.

He hasn't seen the book yet...I am saving it for when we go out for dinner this week with a few of his friends...it will be so much more fun seeing it opened with his friends there.
