Blakeley State Park

Not far from home is Blakeley State Park, it is the site of the last battle of the Civil War. Not only is it home to persevered battle fortifications and fields, but there are also miles of nature trails, camp grounds and eco
tours along the Tensaw-Mobile River Delta.

Every summer area reenactment groups get together and put on a mock battle.
There are canons booming, foot charges and shoots fired, all very loud and smokey.

I enjoy the other details by walking around the camps, seeing the old uniforms, the cooking tools and other survival necessities.

Across the road from the park entrance is Saluda Hill cemetery, where there are graves of Confederate soldiers. We stopped for a look around the cemetery on Sunday...while hunting for a geocache.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate

While out shopping a few months ago I came across a Christmas ornament display...a bit early for Christmas I thought.  I love Christmas so was powerless not to linger and look. There were lots of lovely things that caught my eye, but one ornament stood out. It was a blown glass Reese's bar....what would they think of next?? ...I have only maybe ever eaten 3 or 4 of the peanut butter and chocolate mouthfuls over the years. They were good but not something I would give up my Cadbury or Ghiradelli chocolates for.  When I buy Reese's chocolates, they are bought and transported all the way to NZ for Roger, my baby brother. I saw the ornament and thought of him.

It was when I was waiting in line at the checkout in another store later that day when I noticed all the Reese's candies on display, you know those last chance displays where you throw the odd candy bar into your cart while you are waiting. We all do it don't we?  Right there within reach of my hand was a selection of Reese's bars....gosh I thought - Roger would love this! So I started to pay attention and looked in greater detail....I couldn't believe it, I counted them, there were 14 different Reese's packets ~  a bit over the top!!
it seems that it is not just peanut butter and jelly that they love over here, it is PB & Chocolate too!

You can see six types here....I don't have a wide angle to show you all 14.

So I moved on and did a bit of research....just how many different kinds/packaging do Reese's candy bars come in?

there are the first white chocolate ones I saw

Then I found boxes of cereal,  baking mix and baking chips...

and now the Christmas rush!!

For the first time I noticed that plain PB and chocolate is not the only way they come...

Just wait for the little hearts for Valentines and the bunnies and eggs at Easter.......

and the ornament that started it all!...now on it's way to NZ to be put on a tree.

I wasn't expecting to find a Reese Eiffel Tower...but I was not at all surprised when I read a little Halloween fact sheet in the paper last week.!

Have you seem any that I missed, and what last minute goodies do you throw in your shopping basket while waiting in the checkout line?

A Little TLTL story

You've been asking me about the baby turtles that we were watching for in late August.  Nothing to report unfortunately. We eventually removed the chicken wire I had covering the nest, as there was no sign of any soil  disturbance in the area, and have decided that they are safely tucked away hibernating for now.  Frank was happy to be able to get the mower onto the area and cut the grass which had started to look long and shabby!
Who knows if we will ever catch the moment when the little turtles decide to dig their way out.

A current project I am sinking under at the moment  is the sorting of very old papers and photos....yes finally  I am getting those boxes of photos into albums. Anyway I came across this masterpiece by a very young James.

Have not seen the sweet raccoon face peeping out of that branch hollow again either.
